Permanent Magnet Motor: The characteristic is similar to that of a separately excited motor. Because its excitation is provided by a permanent magnet, it saves power compared to the other. The disadvantage is that the motor is expensive. Because of its characteristics, the excitation and permanent magnet motor can realize the function of recovering part of the electric energy during the braking and regenerative power generation. Generally, it can recover 5%-10%, which can significantly improve the cruising range.

Brush-less DC Motor: The excitation of a brushless permanent magnet motor is also provided by a permanent magnet, but the internal carbon brush is missing, and the controller is required to control the motor to achieve commutation. At present, there are many low-power applications, such as 200W-800W, which are currently mainly used in the field of electric bicycles. High-power brushless motors are also available now, but there are fewer motors, fewer high-power brushless controllers and more expensive markets.

AC Motor: The motor is slightly more efficient than the DC motor. It is regulated by the controller changing the output AC frequency and voltage. The disadvantage is that the controller and the matching price are high, but the motor cost is low. Currently mainly used in the field of electric forklifts.
